KAAM
KAAM is an architectural practice in Bengaluru, India currently led by Kunaal Mehta. We create contemporary architecture that references the traditional and adapts to the contextual.
The spaces we occupy, much like our food and our clothing, are an extension of ourselves and our surroundings. They reflect our needs, the local climate, the resources available, and the time we live in. We aspire to orchestrate a symphony of these aspects of space through our designs.
We approach our craft with care, always mindful of its impact on both people and nature. As a result, our design process is centred around sensibly meeting the users' practical needs with minimal impact on our project’s locale and the resources being used. Our spaces then emerge out of a collaborative journey where we entrust local artisans and designers with our projects, encouraging them to infuse their unique flavour into our vision for the space. This partnership not only enriches our work but also deepens our appreciation for their crafts, allowing us to create designs that are inclusive in both, purpose and process. We take genuine pleasure in this approach, and hope that the people we work with recognise and value its significance.

Kunaal pursued his architectural studies at Sir JJ College of Architecture in Mumbai. Soon after, he relocated to Bengaluru, where he joined the architectural firm Flying Elephant Studio. During his tenure there, Kunaal assumed the role of Senior Project Architect, heading key projects such as the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management in Chennai and Azim Premji Foundation schools and teacher training institutes in Gulbarga, Sirohi, and Tonk.
With more than 8 years of experience in Bengaluru, Kunaal, in collaboration with Amrit Phull, an architect, scholar, and friend, co-founded KAAM.
